Ref JS/SR-100801 - Senior technical author

3di seeks a senior technical author to join our technical communication division. This is a permanent position, subject to a probationary period. We are looking for someone who has, and can communicate, a real passion for technical communication.The successful candidate will join one of our customer projects, working with our existing team on-site in the Cambridge area. We will expect you to play an active role in our on-going commitment to improve our documentation processes and outputs to meet and exceed our customer's expectations.

Prerequisites

• A minimum of 5 years' experience as a professional technical author

• A well-developed understanding of the principles of good information design and of the practices and procedures needed to develop high-quality publications

• Experience of working in a IT development environment and of producing a variety of publications for users of IT software and hardware

• Experience and competence in using a variety of authoring tools

• A team-player mentality willing to support the other members of the 3di team and to integrate with the customer's development team

Also

• Experience of XML-based publication or some other form of structured authoring would be a bonus.

Ref JS/MM 6689 - Localization project manager

3di are looking to hire a localization project manager, initially on a full time contract with a view to a permanent position subject to a probationary period of 4 months. The successful candidate will have:

Applicants MUST have gained their project management experience working in the translation and localization industry. Candidates who submit CV's without this experience will not be considered.

Prerequisites:

• A minimum of 3 years' experience with a medium to large localization service provider
• Ideally a degree in either applied linguistics, modern languages with a translation specialism or a computing/IT degree with a language component
• Very strong IT skills
• Proven experience of account managing blue chip/fortune 500 clients

• Demonstrably strong negotiation skills
• Diplomatic and international outlook
• Excellent written and verbal communication

• Autonomous problem solver
• Ability to constantly review priorities and deadlines
• Open to learning web-based tools for CRM and workflow management

Key Responsibilities:
• Client care and account management for translation and localization projects (in the finance, software, electronics, technology, e-learning sectors)
• Overseeing new project enquiries from analysis to quotation
• Resource planning and scheduling with internal and external production teams
• Ensuring profitable and high quality project deliveries

Scope:
The role will report directly to the head of localization operations, based at 3di head offices in Ripley, near Guildford, Surrey.
There are no line management responsibilities associated with this position.



Ref: BL/JS1968 - Contract technical author (Yorkshire)

3di are looking for a technical author for a 6 month contract in Yorkshire. To be considered for this position, you must have excellent writing skills and experience of modular/XML environments, documenting software products to aggressive deadlines and producing video-based tutorial in Camtasia.

The Role

  • Use Trisoft CMS, DITA XML and XMetal to develop and maintain user-facing documentation
  • Gather information from technical meetings, design specifications, and hands-on testing of the product
  • Assist in the development of ‘how to' and demonstration videos
  • Assist in identifying ways of improving documentation usability and gathering customer feedback

Requirements:

  • Degree in English, Technical Communication, Architecture, Engineering or related field
  • Minimum 3 years experience writing high-quality user documentation. Evidence\work samples will be requested prior to interview
  • Working knowledge of modular XML using structured FrameMaker and XMetal
  • Ability to produce quality work with aggressive deadlines
  • A self-starter with a strong work ethic, sense of humour, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience producing video-based tutorials with Camtasia and screen captures with snagIT
  • Familiarity with agile software development principles
