3di Conquers The Isle of Wight!
The biggest event on the sailing calendar is the world's largest and most famous yachting race, the JPMorgan Asset Management Round the Island Race. It took place on the 28th June 2008 starting and (for most) finishing in Cowes, Isle of Wight. Nearly 1,600 boats competed over the 50-mile course around the Isle of Wight in a race that saw the crew of 3di in a team with Book Builders up against some of the biggest names in the sailing world.
This year's race was a challenge even for the most hardened of sailors when they came up against some of the most demanding conditions. Steady 15knot winds which increased to 25 knots gusting 30 bringing with it big seas and choppy waves, coupled with poor visibility early on, really tested the 3di crew's teamwork and determination.
By the time they rounded the forts just off Ryde the much improved conditions made the last leg of the race enjoyable for all involved. The team of 3di and Bookbuilders had worked well together, bringing their Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 36i Nordic Mist home in just over 9 hours and 23 minutes, deservedly claiming joint 36th place from 62 class entries.
