Paul Ballard co-presents webinar about technical documentation strategy
Paul Ballard, 3di Managing Director, representing the ISTC (Institute of Scientific and Technical Communicators) co-presented a webinar with Mary Mercer of Innodata Isogen in June 2007. The webinar was attended by technical authors and documentation managers from the US and Europe, and was titled "Technical Writing: Reducing Costs Drives Competitive Advantage for Savvy Companies".
The focus of the webinar was to help the audiance learn how technical writing teams can help organisations reduce costs and gain a competitive edge by establishing more efficient workflows, adopting innovative sourcing strategies and deploying new content management and publishing technologies.
Paul's contribution to the webinar focussed on how technical authors can improve the way they communicate with decision makers in companies that are increasingly considering off-shore outsourcing as an alternative. In particular, how can technical authors identify the competive advantage they offer over the alternatives, and apply that to help their companies achieve a competitive advantage for their products.
There are significant shifts taking place in the technical authoring environment and technical authors can be better prepared to face the associated challenges if they make use of the resources available. For technical authors in the UK, the ISTC is uniquely positioned to provide access to those resources and provides a framework to support learning and develop that competitive edge.
